How to take appealing photos for a listing?

Creating an appealing photo for a listing is crucial to attract buyers. Here are some recommendations to help your listings stand out:

  • Lighting
    • Natural Light: Use natural light whenever possible. Shoot near a window or outside on an overcast day to avoid harsh shadows.
    • Artificial Light: If natural light isn't available, use soft-box lights or ring lights to evenly light the item.
  • Background
    • Clean Background: Use a plain, uncluttered background to make the item stand out. White or light-coloured walls or backdrops work well.
    • Consistent Background: Keep the background consistent across all your listings to create a cohesive look.
  • Staging
    • Flat Lay: Lay the item flat on a surface and arrange it neatly. Add complementary items (like accessories) to enhance the presentation.
    • Mannequin or Model: Show the item on a mannequin or model to give buyers an idea of fit and style.
    • Hanging: Hang the item on a hanger against a clean background for a straightforward presentation.
  • Detail Shots
    • Close-Ups: Include close-up shots of important details like buttons, zippers, fabric texture, tags, and any flaws.
    • Multiple Angles: Take photos from different angles (front, back, sides) to give a comprehensive view of the item.
  • Composition
    • Centered Item: Ensure the item is centered and fills the frame without being cut off.
    • Rule of Thirds: Use the rule of thirds to create a balanced and visually appealing composition.
  • Editing
    • Adjust Brightness and Contrast: Make slight adjustments to brightness and contrast to ensure the item is clearly visible.
    • Avoid Filters: Stay away from heavy filters that alter the true color and look of the item.
  • Resolution
    • High Resolution: Use a high-resolution camera or smartphone. Ensure the images are sharp and not blurry.
    • Consistent Dimensions: Crop images to square dimensions to fit Ardzen's layout without cropping important parts of the item.
  • Context
    • Styling Ideas: Show how the item can be styled. For example, if you're selling a jacket, pair it with a shirt and jeans.
    • Size Reference: If possible, provide a reference for size by including a commonly recognized object in the frame or using a model of known height.

  • Your listing requires package dimensions and weight so that buyers are charged the correct amount for shipping and Arzden generates the correct Canada Post, USPS or DHL Express label for shipping.
